Harry Potter muffins

Hi!

Today we want to present you a recipe for Harry Potter muffins. We made them a few days ago and everybody liked them - especially Harry Potter fans! This post may seem a little bit off-topic at first sight but the muffins are really good and as they are decorated with Harry Potter figures we thought it would be nice to share the recipe with you.

The fondant
You have to start forming the fondant figures at least 24 hours before you want to decorate the muffins because fondant needs some time to dry.

What you need:
  • white fondant (you could also use marzipan)
  • food colouring
  • cocoa
  • a knife
  • a rolling pin and a wooden board
  • if you have already coloured fondant you won't need the cocoa and the food colouring

We made:
  •  two Gryffindor scarfs
  •  one owl Hedwig
  •  one head of an owl
  •  two golden snitches
  •  one broom
  •  two speaking hats
  •  the sign of the Deathly Hallows
  •  the letters HP
  •  the letters of the four houses G, S, R, H

Now we want to explain some of the fondant figures we made. They are in general very easy to make and we think that everybody can do it!

The lightning:
  • colour the white fondant yellow
  • draw the shape of a lightning
  • cut out the shape
  • let the fondant dry

The owl Hedwig:
  • use the white fondant
  • draw the shape of the body of an owl and cut it out
  • cut out the shape of two wings and stick them on the body
  • colour a little bit of the fondant orange
  • cut out the shape of a beak
  • stick the buck on the face of the owl and draw two eyes with dark food colouring
  • let the fondant dry

The golden snitch:
  • colour the white fondant yellow
  • form a ball
  • use the white fondant for the wings
  • cut out the shape of two wings
  • stick them under the ball
  • use a small stick to create a pattern of feathers

The Gryffindor scarf:

  • colour the fondant red
  • cut out the shape of a scarf
  • colour some fondant yellow
  • cut out stripes
  • stick the stripes on the scarf
  • let the fondant dry

The other fondant figures also are very easy and we don't think that you'll need instructions to do them. The muffin recipe is very good, too. But of course you can make different types of muffins.

The muffin recipe

What you need:
  • three eggs
  • 180g sugar
  • 180g butter
  • 150g flour
  • ½ pack of vanilla sugar
  • 30g corn starch
  • ½ tea spoon of baking powder
  • 12 tea spoons of Nutella (or any other chocolate cream)
  • chocolate

You'll get 12 muffins. We took the double amount of ingredients because we wanted to bake more muffins and made 24.

What you have to do:
  • Fill in the butter into a bowl.
  • Add the eggs.
  • Mix the ingredients.
  • Add the flour, the corn starch, the sugar, the vanilla sugar and the baking powder.
  • Mix the ingredients.
  • Fill in one table spoon of the dough into every muffin form. Then fill in one tea spoon of Nutella and again ½ table spoon of the dough.
  • Bake: 200°C for 15 minutes.
  • Let the muffins cool down.
  • Take the muffins out of the forms.
  • Heat the chocolate in a bain-marie.
  • Cover the muffins with the liquid chocolate.
  • Decorate the muffins with the fondant figures.

We hope you'll try out our recipe and enjoy the muffins!

I'll go to Lottie now to bake the muffins with her - she really is the best baker I know! ~Liv
I want to eat them too! Bye!~Gwen
