Stardust

Hi!

Many people think that Neil Gaiman is a star. This refers to one of his most famous books – »Stardust«. It tells the story of Tristran Thorne who wants to capture the heart of his love finding a fallen star.

»A philosopher once asked, "Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?"
Pointless, really…
"Do the stars gaze back?" Now, that's a question.«

The story takes place in medieval times in a little village named Wall. This name comes from a strange stonewall which is said to divide to real world from the magical Kingdom 'Stormhold'.
A normal boy named Tristran is living in Wall and is in love with Victoria Forster the beauty of the village. He promises her to bring her the fallen star they saw one evening if she marries him. But unfortunately the star fell down on the other side of the wall. The star turns out to be a beautiful young woman named Yvaine and Tristran promises her to bring her back home (he has got a special candle with which you can travel wherever you want) if she first goes with him to Victoria. So they have a wonderful journey back to the wall. What they do not know is that there are many persuer who are hot on their heels. Firstly there are some wishes who want to cut out Yvaine's heart to eat it and become immortal and secondly there is the king's son Septimus who wants to catch her because she has found a special necklace which will make Septimus king of Stormhold. Tristran and Yvaine experience many adventures and by and by they fall in love.

Tristran is very nice and cordially. At the beginning he only wants to marry Victoria and everything also is equal for him but by the time he struts to think about Yvaine and we really love them together. Yvaine is very wonderful and kind, but a little bit naive. She only knows the world like she saw it from heaven.

The book »Stardust« has got a great and elaborate story but we do not like it that much. There is an awesome movie adaptation from 2007 which is for our view much better than the book. This sounds very strange because normally the book is much better than the film but in this case the movie is very well thought-out and especially the end of the movie is much more realistic than the end of the book.
If you have read »Stardust« you should definitely watch the film and evaluate yourself!

Well, I can do it in my dreams. ~Liv
